Freelance [free-lans]

noun, Also, free-lance.
A person who works as a writer, designer, performer, or the like, selling work or services by the hour, day, job, etc., rather than working on a regular salary basis for one employer.

Wastrel [wey-struh l]

noun, Chiefly British.
An idler or good-for-nothing.

I still like to think of myself as the former but often feel more the latter these days…
