Slide Film Sunday… The Upper Room by Colin Wilbourn

Nikon F90X Pro, Sigma 28~200mm f/3.8-5.6 DL Macro – Fujichrome

A couple of weeks ago I posted an image of Colin Wilbourn’s Stone Stair Carpet here and when browsing the artist’s website I discovered I’d photographed another of his creations in Durham back in February 2000.

The Upper Room was created from 13 elm trunks, arranged on the bank of the River Wear where they had grown. From most viewpoints they made little sense but at one end of the ‘grove’ there was a seat in a hollowed out trunk and from this seat the image of the empty room, complete with the remains of the meal that had taken place there became visible.

Eventually the wood deteriorated and the sculpture was dismantled…

Throwback Thursday… Peak Rail

Fujifilm X-E1, Fujinon XF 18-55mm f2.8~4 R LM OIS at 55mm, 1/125s, f8, ISO 320

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Seven years ago it was Peak Rail in Derbyshire.

LORD PHIL (built by the Hunslet Engine Co Ltd for the War Department in 1943) was in charge of passenger services and had no problems handling a five coach train.

This Midland Railway wagon was looking every bit its almost hundred years age though… ‘For Internal Use Only’ refers to a vehicle not allowed out onto the main line but still used in an industrial location.
