Rolls Royce Merlin X aero engine
Nikon F3HP, Nikkor 35mm f/2 – 1/125s, f11, – Kentmere 400 rated at ISO 320
A Rolls Royce Merlin X aero engine on display at The Ruskin Museum in Coniston. The engine was one of four fitted to Handley Page Halifax V bomber, LL505 ‘FD-S’ of the Royal Air Force’s 1659 Heavy Conversion unit (HCU) that crashed on Great Carrs between Coniston and Little Langdale during a navigational exercise on 22 October 1944. All eight members of the crew were killed in the crash.
The engine is one of two recovered by the RAF in 1997, the other is in the Pathfinder Museum at RAF Wyton in Cambridgeshire.

Fujica GW690 – 1/30s, f4, – Ilford Delta 400 Professional rated at ISO 3200
I received five rolls of film back from the lab yesterday, all shot with the gorgeous Fujica GW690 that I’ve got on loan…
I’ve never pushed Ilford Delta 400 before and only did so here to try and bag a few shots of York after dark while wobbling my way from ‘The Last Drop’ to the railway station.
I’m absolutely loving the results from this camera… I’m quite taken with the pushed Delta 400 too!

Another shot from September’s trip to Morston Quay in Norfolk, the name of this boat amused me…

No.4, No.5
Fujifilm X-T1, Fujinon XF 35mm f2 R WR, 1/60s, f5, ISO 400
I’m having trouble sleeping tonight so rummaging through some images from a couple of years ago that haven’t yet seen the light of day…
This shot comes from a bitterly cold walk around the East Sussex town of Lewes in February 2017, I just liked the soft colours and the regimented shapes of these two doors.
Although the door numbers here are a very similar style I’ve often wondered about photographing all the different ways in which house numbers are displayed, ancient and modern, simple or elaborate…

‘There are many schools of painting. Why should there not be many schools of photographic art? There is hardly a right and a wrong in these matters, but there is truth, and that should form the basis of all works of art.’

The wheel fell off…
This seemingly abandoned wheel (on the outskirts of Coniston in Cumbria) reminded me of the old saying ‘I had one but the wheel(s) fell off’ (a once common retort, used when you don’t understand what someone is saying, often about something technical.)
