Today I’m trying out the excellent Negative Lab Pro plugin for Lightroom with on scans made with my Epson Perfection 4870 Photo flatbed scanner… So far things are looking pretty good!

Following advice on the Negative Lab Pro forum I’m scanning my black & white negatives as 48-bit colour positives (with all sharpening/correction/restoration options turned off). Next thing is to try a few colour negatives!

The above image was taken (I think) the day after a friend’s wedding in October 1999 (Hi Marie! Hi Andy!) during a brief wander around the university city of Cambridge.

Another image from North Norfolk and given the unseasonably soggy May we’re having I thought I’d choose one captured during an unseasonably warm October!

The six-acre walled garden at Holkham Hall is an ongoing restoration project and a wonderful place to while away a slumberous afternoon.

I’m taking advantage of the current spell of poor weather to tidy up my negative folders (so far I’m up to 145 rolls labelled and filed…)

The sheet these images are from is one of a very small number with any details attached and by coincidence they date from a visit to Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal Water Garden 23 years ago today!

Another image of Belper East Mill, this time with ‘The Triangle’ in the foreground.

‘The Triangle’ was created c.1900 when a number of houses were demolished to improve the road juction here. It was used as the turning circle for the Derby-Belper bus from the end of the First World War until the 1970s.

The seven-storey Belper East Mill dates from 1912 and as a child (not quite as far back as 1912!) I got to explore most of it thanks to my Dad being assistant general manager there.

The Horseshoe Weir (built c.1797) was built to enable the River Derwent to power the older West Mill and replaced a much simpler structure located slightly further upstream.

The weather that day was perfect for an outdoors pub lunch and a pint or two (or three)… It’s a pity I can’t say the same of today!
