A rescheduled ‘Photography Friday’ outing this week saw Rachel and I exploring a local nature reserve on Wednesday…
Apart from a Common Tern (Sterna hirundo) the only visible wildlife was butterflies and I spent quite a bit of time photographing them.
This Peacock butterfly (Inachis io) was captured with the aid of an 11mm extension tube placed between camera and lens, allowing the XF 55-200mm lens to focus much closer than its normal 1.1m whilst maintaining both auto-exposure and autofocus functions, it’s an accessory I find myself using more and more.

A (just) pre-lockdown image and another from my recently returned Olympus OM-1N but this time using a lens that rarely sees any action, the Zuiko Auto-T 135mm f/3.5.
Silver Birch trees (Betula pendula) are common on the ‘Edges’ in the Peak District but I can never resist photographing them…
The ‘Mother Cap’ stone sits high above the abandoned gritstone quarries on Millstone Edge and is very popular with climbers.

An image from this year’s Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day taken with a charity shop find Diana+ camera.
The Diana+ has two pinhole modes… setting the aperture to ‘P’ and removing the lens gives a ‘true’ pinhole image, leaving the lens on gives what Lomography call a ‘Magnum’ image that is sharper and less wideangle than a ‘true’ image.
The above image is what happens when you forget to wind on between shots and accidentally record both types on one frame!

I owned a chrome Nikon FE around 25 years ago and loved it, only parting with it to fund the purchase of a Nikon F-801s for work, so when a mint condition black one came my way recently how could I resist?

I really should make notes when photographing gardens, most of them label their plants after all but I believe that these beautiful flowers are some variety of Hellenium, also known as ‘Sneezeweed’.
I’ve splashed out on a few more rolls of Ektachrome but haven’t yet had chance to shoot any of it this summer…
