What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Ten years ago it was it was this Hunslet class WD ‘Austerity’ 0-6-0ST steam locomotive at Rowsley South station at Peak Rail.

I’ve just realised this post is almost identical to this one from January 12 2023… same railway, different loco!

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Nine years ago it was a couple of odd corners of the city of Nottingham.

Designed by T.C. Hine, the Great Northern Railway (GNR) corn warehouse dates from 1857 and is Grade II Listed but was badly damaged by fire in 1998 and as far as I’m aware is still standing but derelict.

This Reliant 5cwt van was perched on top of a container and advertising ‘Lady Bay Independant Car Breakers’ near the racecourse in Colwick. The 5cwt van was the predecessor of the ‘Supervan’ that was made famous by the BBC sitcom Only Fools and Horses.

I’ve been a little too busy to post regularly this December, the image below (courtesy of Mrs Claus) will hopefully explain what’s been keeping me occupied!

A few weeks ago I took part in a night photo shoot at Newark Air Museum (in Nottinghamshire, not New Jersey) and this is my favourite image from the evening…

XM594 was delivered to the Royal Air Force on 9 July 1963, entering service with 27 Squadron as part of RAF Scampton’s Blue Steel Wing (Blue Steel was an air-launched, rocket-propelled nuclear armed standoff missile, built to arm the V-bomber force).

XM594 made its final flight on 7 February 1983, to the former RAF Winthorpe, home of the Newark Air Museum.
