I paid a visit to the Erewash Museum‘s Motorcycle Open Day today…

There was a fantastic variety of bikes on display: custom Harley-Davidsons, modern tourers, a couple of ‘Rat‘ bikes and more classic Brits than you could shake a stick at!

The above image shows one of the many Triumphs on display and I’m reasonably certain that it’s a 1960 T120 Bonneville (but I’m happy to be corrected if I’m wrong).

A shot from the digital archives tonight…

An unidentified class 377 ‘Electrostar’ electric multiple unit crosses Worthing Road at Angmering with the 19.32 Southern service from Portsmouth & Southsea (the 20.18 from Angmering) to Brighton on 20 May 2015. I didn’t have a tripod with me so rested my camera on top of a handy fence post and hoped for the best!

This pic cropped up tonight while I was looking for something else entirely, my archives definitely need a good sort out!

Another image taken with my thingyfy Pinhole Pro S ‘lens’.

Last Sunday would have been my late father-in-law’s 99th birthday so Joy and I took some flowers up to Crich Stand, a memorial tower dedicated to the memory of the soldiers from the Sherwood Foresters Regiment who died in World War I and World War II* (Joy’s Dad lived to a ripe old age but spent World War II serving in North Africa and Italy with the regiment).

I thought I’d sneak a few minutes capturing a couple of images for Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day while I was there…

*The memorial is also dedicated to those who died serving in the Sherwood Foresters Regiment from 1945 to 1970, the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment from 1970 to 2007 and the Mercian Regiment since 2007.

Last Saturday saw four people undertake a madcap 550 mile round trip to Glasgow so that one of them (hi Mark!) could go to a football match.

Mark’s wife (and my regular ‘Photography Friday’ partner in crime, Rachel), my wife, Joy, and myself had a few hours to explore the city (and have a wee drink or two) but we were all keen to see as much of the city’s Mural Trail as possible.

The above image is of the first mural we found… Painted by Australian artist ‘Smug’ (Sam Bates) in 2016 it depicts St Mungo, Glasgow’s patron saint.

Btw, Rachel’s image of the mural is currently gracing the BBC’s ‘Your pictures of Scotland‘ page!

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Five years ago it was this beautiful steam locomotive at the North Norfolk Railway (NNR). 8572 is a London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) class B12 4-6-0, built in 1928 by Beyer, Peacock & Co Ltd and withdrawn from British Railways service in 1961.

It arrived at the NNR in 1967 and was finally returned to steam in 1995 after a long and difficult restoration.

I’ve spent many hours photographing heritage railways in general and the North Norfolk in particular and I’m looking forward to more of the same this summer.

I should point out that this image was captured with the aid of a NNR lineside photographic pass.

Currently on display in Coventry, the National Monument Against Violence and Aggression, more commonly known as the ‘Knife Angel’ is a towering, poignant tribute to the lives lost to knife violence.

Artist Alfie Bradley disinfected and blunted more than 100,000 weapons before welding them together to form the angel. Thirty percent of the knives used in the sculpture were bloodied on arrival and came in biohazard bags.

It’s an incredibly moving piece of art and ironically I almost had a moment of ‘violence and aggression’ myself while viewing it… The urge to slap senseless the person who insisted on telling me ‘it’s a statue dedicated to Mick Dagger! Geddit? Mick DAGGER!’ was almost irresistible…

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Four years ago it was this ‘ghost’ sign in Derby. I have a fondness for old painted, carved or tiled signs advertising long defunct businesses and I photograph them whenever possible.

This one has obviously been repainted at some point as two sets of ‘Radio Times’ lettering are clearly visible…

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Five years ago it was this gently decaying Hunting Aircraft Jet Provost trainer aircraft XM480.

Delivered new in July 1960 to No.27 Maintenance Unit (MU) at RAF Shawbury XM480 moved to No.1 Flight Training School (FTS) at RAF Linton-on-Ouse three months later. A transfer to No.6 FTS at RAF Acklington followed in June 1962 and a return to No.27 MU in December 1967 for storage.

Declared non-effective in March 1969 XM480 was transported to No.1 School of Technical Training (SoTT) at RAF Halton for ground instructional use and allocated the maintenance serial no. 8080M. A final transfer to RAF Finningley came in February 1994 before finally being tendered for sale in February 1995.

Jet Provosts were regular visitors to the skies above my childhood home and I used to watch them for hours…
