What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Nine years ago it was some of the ‘ghost’ signs (old hand-painted advertising signs that have been preserved on a building for an extended period of time) dotted around the city of Derby.

The second ‘Butcher’ sign of the day… on this one I can also just make out the wording ‘Pork Pies and Sausages’.

This one is my favourite!

Amazingly, all these signs were (maybe still are) to be found on one half-mile stretch of London Road!

A fantastic ‘ghost’ sign, spotted in Belper, Derbyshire in January this year… Although now a kitchen and bathroom showroom I do vaguely remember this building being a butcher’s shop.

Another image from the first roll of film through my Olympus OM-2 Spot/Program.

Throwback Thursday… Radio Times ‘ghost’ sign

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Four years ago it was this ‘ghost’ sign in Derby. I have a fondness for old painted, carved or tiled signs advertising long defunct businesses and I photograph them whenever possible.

This one has obviously been repainted at some point as two sets of ‘Radio Times’ lettering are clearly visible…

Single frame… John Toulson Transport

I do love a bit of ‘wriggly tin’ especially when it sports peeling paint and patches of rust… As far as I can tell ‘John Toulson Transport’ hasn’t occupied this building since 2008 and the Teesdale weather hasn’t been kind to it since then.

Monochrome Monday… The old Post Office, Ilkeston

Minolta Dynax 505si Super, Minolta AF 50mm f/1.7 – 1/45s, f4, – Ilford FP4+ rated at ISO 200

I have a fondness for what are known as ‘Ghost’ signs… that is to say old painted, carved or tiled signs advertising long defunct businesses and I photograph them whenever possible.

Hogarths Gin Palace now occupies the building that this particular sign adorns, while the Post Office resides in a tiny, nondescript location closer to the centre of town.

This is an image from the roll of film I shot for January’s Emulsive FP4 Party.
