A trio of brass bottles, modelled on the famous Henderson’s Relish (Hendo’s) bottle, adorning a seating area in Leavygreave Road, Sheffield, a few yards away from the former Henderson’s Relish factory. The seating areas and ‘planter tables’ were designed by local artist David Appleyard.

A happy reminder of a wander around my favourite city on an utterly glorious day in June 2019.

If there is a finer condiment to splash on a meal I’ve yet to taste it!

I’ve photographed this cheeky sign that advertises That Little Tea Shop in the Lanes in Brighton a few times but as yet I’ve not sampled said shop’s menu… I really must pop in for tea and cake at some point!

With a lot of time to spare at the moment I’ve been rummaging through folders of negatives, looking for nothing in particular but finding all sorts!

This shot was taken in the summer of 1998 on a Kodak Duaflex II, a simple box camera designed to look like a twin-lens reflex camera (TLR).

There were a number of Duaflex models with some having a focusing 72mm f/8 Kodar lens but this version has the fixed 75mm Kodet f/15 and was produced in the UK at some point between 1949 and 1955.

All versions took 620 roll film and although Kodak Gold 200 was certainly produced in 620 format I’ve a feeling that I re-spooled a roll of 120 (which is quite simple to do in a film changing bag) before taking the camera for an outing to Belper River Gardens.

I notice that Analogue Wonderland are stocking the Film Photography Project‘s range of 620 film… perhaps I should order a roll and give the Duaflex another outing?

I’ve mentioned before one of the ‘perks’ of working in the photographic retail trade being the occasional loan of equipment that I wouldn’t otherwise get to use…

20 years ago (almost to the day) I borrowed a Fuji GSW 690 III for a weekend, shooting a mixture of black & white and out of date slide film.

The above image, of All Saints Church in Ashover, Derbyshire, was taken during a stroll around the village after shutting up the shop for the day. The EBC Fujinon SW 65mm f/5.6 lens gives a wider view than the GW 690’s 90mm that I’ve got used to in the last 18 months (and finally bought from the chap who kindly loaned it to me… thanks James!) and the notes I made at the time show that I was hand-holding the camera at shutter speeds down to 1/30 second!

I hadn’t used slide film in almost 20 years until I bought a couple of rolls of Kodak Ektachrome E100 from Analogue Wonderland last summer.

This gleaming 1956 Chevrolet 3100 pickup was photographed at MFN‘s ‘American ‘n’ Classic Car ‘n’ Truck ‘n’ Bike’ show in August on the fantastically compact and lightweight Nikon F75 SLR fitted with the very underrated AF Nikkor 28-80mm f/3.5-5.6D lens…

I loved the results from the Ektachrome, the images are sharp, contrasty and so very colourful, hopefully I’ll be able to shoot some more this summer!

Last weekend I managed to shoot a roll of Kodacolor 200 (that went out of date in September 2001!) for Expired Film Day 2020. Using the rule of thumb ‘overexpose one stop for every decade the film is out of date I rated it at EI 50 and the results aren’t bad!

This security shutter caught my eye, it belongs to Caribbean Spice, a restaurant and takeaway on London Road in Sheffield… and I really must try the food there!

Yet another image from the roll of Kodak Tri-X shot in a borrowed Nikon F…

This four-wheel, five plank railway wagon, was photographed at the Midland Railway Butterley (MR-B) in October last year. Not much is known about it other than it was built by Harrison & Camm Ltd of Rotherham and was acquired by the MR-B from Royal Naval Armament Depot (RNAD) Bedenham in Hampshire.

Yet another image from the roll of Kodak Tri-X shot in a borrowed Nikon F and another railway wagon!

’98’ is a four-wheeled, rectangular tank wagon built by Charles Roberts & Co. Ltd. in 1913 that awaits restoration at the Midland Railway-Butterley. I believe that the wagon ended its working life as a Sludge Tank at Lambton Coking Plant near Sunderland.

An image from a recent ‘Photography Friday’ trip out with Rachel… This patch of woodland can be found to the north of the wonderfully named ‘Great Pond of Stubbing’ near Chesterfield in Derbyshire and we used a brief break in the rainy weather during half-term to explore it. It’s definitely a location we’ll be revisiting!
