Monochrome Monday… Winch, Craster, August 2020

Ondu 6×6 Pocket Pinhole + ND8 filter, 30s, f167 – Foma Pan 100

Another pinhole pic from a recent visit to Craster in Northumberland.

This winch is quietly rusting away beside the harbour and only a couple of feet away from the bench where we tucked into a picnic lunch…

Again, I could’ve done with getting much closer with the wide-angle Ondu camera!

Monochrome Monday… Mercia Marina on Kentmere Pan 400

From Friday’s film disappointment (Foma Retropan 320) to a film I’m really beginning to love… Kentmere Pan 400.

Mercia Marina (off the Trent & Mersey Canal in South Derbyshire) is an odd mix of old boats and new buildings and it made for an interesting ‘Photography Friday’ outing back in January.

I was testing a (new to me) Nikon FE and shooting an inexpensive black & white film made sense as I’d just started home developing again.

Kentmere Pan 400 is certainly more contrasty than the Retropan and whilst still grainy, it’s a more ‘crisp’ grain that I rather like.

I’ve just bought some Kentmere Pan 100… let’s see what that’s like?

Monochrome Monday… Silver Birch and Mother Cap

A (just) pre-lockdown image and another from my recently returned Olympus OM-1N but this time using a lens that rarely sees any action, the Zuiko Auto-T 135mm f/3.5.

Silver Birch trees (Betula pendula) are common on the ‘Edges’ in the Peak District but I can never resist photographing them…

The ‘Mother Cap’ stone sits high above the abandoned gritstone quarries on Millstone Edge and is very popular with climbers.

A pre-lockdown image from a beautiful spring afternoon’s visit to the local churchyard…

I owned a chrome Nikon FE around 25 years ago and loved it, only parting with it to fund the purchase of a Nikon F-801s for work, so when a mint condition black one came my way recently how could I resist?

A blog post about the Nikon FE is on its way…

An image from the first roll of film through my Olympus OM-1N since it’s return from PPP Repairs and one of the first to use the Zuiko 50mm f/3.5 Macro lens that was a 50th birthday present from my wife (thank you Joy!)

The 50mm Macro has very quickly become the ‘standard’ lens on my OM cameras, it’s wonderfully compact and lightweight, not to mention fantastically sharp!

Monochrome Monday… The narrowboat ‘SOVEREIGN’

Nikon FG, Nikon Series E 36-72mm f/3.5, – Kodak T-Max T400 CN

Lockdown is giving me chance to look through folders full of (mostly unidentified) negatives…

From the few notes I made at the time I can at least tell that this roll was shot in the summer of 2008 on a Nikon FG and mainly using a Nikon Series E 36-72mm f/3.5 lens.

The FG was one of the first cameras I bought when I returned to shooting film after shooting digital for a few years… I really ought to dig it out and use it again.

Yet another Fujica GW690/Kodak T-Max 400/Y15 filter image from last year’s Scottish holiday…

I really can’t wait to visit Scotland again and my fingers are tightly crossed that the trip I’ve got booked for later this year will be able to go ahead…

Monochrome Monday… Socially distanced picnic table

An image from one of my last ‘pre-lockdown’ photographic forays…

Redhill Quarry, near Middleton in the Derbyshire Dales is now a nature reserve and picnic area and I had the place to myself on the bleak January day that I chose to visit (I was ‘social distancing’ before it was a necessity).

I can’t help feeling that the isolated picnic table has far more meaning now than when I photographed it…
