Sheffield University’s new Social Science building ‘The Wave’ had only been open for a couple of weeks when I photographed it in May this year. The 16,600sqm structure was designed by HLM Architects and cost £65m but complaints have recently been made that the building traps too much heat in hot weather causing a potential health and safety hazard!

A few weeks ago I shot a roll of Lomography Metropolis film in a Canon EOS 500N that I found at a car boot sale (for a fiver, complete with EF 35-80mm f/4.5.6 lens!) back in June…

I didn’t know what to expect from either the film or the camera but quite like the muted tones of the former and the light weight of the latter!

Suffering from tinnitus means I don’t photograph nearly as much live music as I used to but when I found out Freeway were playing outdoors at one of my favourite local micropubs, The Bunny Hop Ale House I thought I’d go along and take a few pics (and have a pint or two!)

Kershaw 450, exposure details not recorded – Ilford XP2 Super

Not Lytham St. Anne’s the place but Lytham St. Anne’s the steam locomotive… or parts of it anyway!

This locomotive was built by Peckett & Sons in 1949 as works no.2111 and was used at Blackpool Gasworks. After intial preservation at Lytham St Anne’s it moved to the Midland Railway-Butterley in 1990 where it ran for six years before being withdrawn for overhaul.

Throwback Thursday… Pit Top Arch

Fujifilm X20, Fujinon Super EBC 7.1-28.4mm f2~2.8 at 22.8mm, 1/160s, f8, ISO 100

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Eight years ago it was this sculpture by Liz Lemon and Gwen Heeney… I’m not sure if it has an official name but it’s known locally as the ‘Pit Top Arch’ as it stands on the site of Ripley Colliery.

Originally the arch was mirrored by a seating area but this was removed some years ago, presumably because people would insist on sitting there… 🙄

The Fujifilm X20 has recently returned after a period out on loan to a friend and I’ve started using it again.
