‘BE Excellent to EACH Other’

More people need to practise this…
So many of my friends, employed in service industries, are finding their working days being made thoroughly unpleasant thanks to customers who can’t even be ‘civil’ let alone ‘excellent!’ to them… Being on the recieving end of outright abuse is becoming a daily occurence for some of them and it needs to stop!
End of sermon…
This piece of street art was spotted in Norwich a few weeks ago, after an hour of trawling the internet I still don’t know who painted it but it may be the work of artist Tony Allen… If anyone knows for certain, please tell me.

‘Hendo’s!’
Nikon FE2, Nikkor 24mm f/2.8 AI-S – 1/250s, f8, – Kodak Portra 400 rated at ISO 200
A trio of brass bottles, modelled on the famous Henderson’s Relish (Hendo’s) bottle, adorning a seating area in Leavygreave Road, Sheffield, a few yards away from the former Henderson’s Relish factory. The seating areas and ‘planter tables’ were designed by local artist David Appleyard.
A happy reminder of a wander around my favourite city on an utterly glorious day in June 2019.

Caribbean Spice
Canon EOS 600, EF 50mm f/1.8 II, 1/125s, f4 – O.O.D. Kodacolor 200
Last weekend I managed to shoot a roll of Kodacolor 200 (that went out of date in September 2001!) for Expired Film Day 2020. Using the rule of thumb ‘overexpose one stop for every decade the film is out of date I rated it at EI 50 and the results aren’t bad!
This security shutter caught my eye, it belongs to Caribbean Spice, a restaurant and takeaway on London Road in Sheffield… and I really must try the food there!

‘Eyecatching’
Yashica FX-D Quartz, Yashica ML 35mm f/2.8 – Agfa Vista Plus 200
Another sheet of forgotten negatives turned up this week, funnily enough at the same time I decided to give the camera they were shot on another outing.
The Yashica FX-D Quartz is a close relative of the Contax 139 and shares its lens mount, enabling the use of Contax’s superb Carl Zeiss optics but this entire roll of film was shot with the excellent Yashica ML 35mm f/2.8 lens.
This piece of street art (and the building it adorned) are no more, another disused factory knocked down… ‘Eyecatching’ was collaboration between Sheffield artists Rocket 01 and Faunagraphic and other examples of their work are still visible around the city.

Yachts, Bridlington, March 2019
Olympus μ [mju:] – II – Kodak Gold 100 (expired 1996) rated at ISO 25
A very quick post today as I’m off to Bridlington tonight to see The Red Hot Chilli Pipers perform at the Spa!
Back in March one of mine and Rachel’s ‘Photography Friday’ jaunts coincided with Expired Film Day and these images were taken on a very battered Olympus μ [mju:] – II compact camera that I managed to pick up in a charity shop a few weeks before for a mere £1.95!
I was pleasantly surprised by how well these films performed, especially the Fuji Super G Plus 200 that was 22 years out of date!

Last Saturday saw four people undertake a madcap 550 mile round trip to Glasgow so that one of them (hi Mark!) could go to a football match.
Mark’s wife (and my regular ‘Photography Friday’ partner in crime, Rachel), my wife, Joy, and myself had a few hours to explore the city (and have a wee drink or two) but we were all keen to see as much of the city’s Mural Trail as possible.
The above image is of the first mural we found… Painted by Australian artist ‘Smug’ (Sam Bates) in 2016 it depicts St Mungo, Glasgow’s patron saint.
Btw, Rachel’s image of the mural is currently gracing the BBC’s ‘Your pictures of Scotland‘ page!
