Santa’s Grotto This Way
iPhone SE, Hipstamatic Chunky ‘lens’ & Cano Cafenol ‘film’, 1/35s, f2.2, ISO 50
What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Two years ago it was this juxtaposition of signs that made me chuckle…
Even the longest established businesses need to relocate sometimes! 😁
Grape Lane, York December 2018
Fujica GW690 – 1/60s, f3.5, – Ilford Delta 400 Professional rated at ISO 3200
I’m already looking forward to a festive ‘Photography Friday’ trip to York! Will I take the wonderful (and still on loan) Fujica GW690 with me again? You betcha!

Derby Cathedral, November 2015
Fujifilm X-E1, Fujinon XF 27mm f2.8, 1/3500s, f2.8, ISO 800
What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Four years ago it was the city of Derby…
I was trying out the Fujinon XF 27mm f2.8 lens for the first time, I didn’t get on with it… Optically the lens was flawless, I just didn’t care for the lack of an aperture ring, something I was used to with my other X-series lenses.
I’m not quite sure what was going on with my camera settings that day… ‘1/3500s, f2.8, ISO 800’ What was I thinking?
‘Dog is my Copilot’
Nikon FE2, Nikkor 35mm f/2 AI-S, 1/60s, f5.6, Ilford FP4 Plus rated at ISO 100
The ‘Dog is my Copilot’ lettering inside what is obviously a pet carrier attached to this BMW F800GS made me chuckle…
‘Look Rover, this is the ninth tree you’ve made me stop at today!’

Residents Parking Only, Leith
Nikon F-801s, AF Nikkor 24-50mm f/3.3-4.5 at 50mm, 1/125s, f5.6, Lomography Lady Grey rated at ISO 320
Another image from a trip to Portobello and Leith in August.
I love how the shadow falls in this alley off Bernard Street in Leith. The double yellow lines seem like overkill in an alley barely wide enough for a car!

Dalton For Scrap, Leith
Nikon F-801s, AF Nikkor 24-50mm f/3.3-4.5 at 24mm, 1/500s, f8, Lomography Lady Grey rated at ISO 320
My partner in crime on most of my photographic jaunts these days (Hi Rachel!) can often predict what I’ll excitedly photograph on our outings… This scrapyard sign in Leith was one such item… Scrap yard? Check! Rusty barbed wire? Check! Something that’s seen better days? Check!
I must point out here that the Port of Leith is a lovely place to visit, we spent a fantastic day there this summer just wandering about, snapping away and drinking beer… There was indeed ‘Sunshine on Leith’.

Flaked out dog, Sheringham
Fujifilm X20, Fujinon Super EBC 7.1-28.4mm f2~2.8 at 24mm, 1/550s, f8, ISO 100
What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Five years ago it was this very bored-looking dog at Sheringham, waiting for its ‘humans’ to get on with the walk they’d promised him…
The X20 was my first Fujifilm camera and was directly responsible for my entry into the X mirrorless system in 2015 (with the X-E1). It’s also partially to blame for my friend Rachel’s interest in photography… she borrowed it during our holiday to Scotland in October 2017 and hasn’t looked back!
The old and the new, Sheffield
Nikon FE2, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI-S – 1/250s, f11, – Kodak Portra 400 rated at ISO 200
A contrast between old and new in Sheffield, photographed in June. In the foreground is part of the Royal Exchange Buildings, a brown glazed brick structure dating from 1900 and designed by John Henry Bryars. The modern building in the background is the 52-metre, 16 floor iQuarter apartment building on Blonk Street, built on the site of the former Hancock and Lant furniture company premises.
