I can’t tell you why I find this image of the defunct cooling towers at Willington Power Station so appealing… I just do.

It’s also one of only half a dozen or so images (so far) taken with my Zoom-Nikkor 43-86mm f/3.5 Ai lens…

Throwback Thursday… Footbridge over Burbage Brook, August 2011

Panasonic Lumix GF-1, Lumix G Vario OIS 14-45 f/3.5~5.6 at 18mm, 1/125s, f6.3, ISO 200

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Ten years ago it was a footbridge over Burbage Brook in Yarncliffe Wood in the Peak District, in an area better known as Padley Gorge.

I’ve not been up there in a while, it’s a beautiful spot but incredibly difficult to get to yourself!

Monochrome Monday… Shadows, Pennytown Ponds

Nikon F3HP, NIKKOR 50mm f/1.4 Ai-S, 1/125s, f8 – Ilford Delta 400 Professional rated at ISO 320
Developed in Ilford DDX at 1:4, 8 mins at 20°c.

It took me a while to remember where this pic was taken and even now I’m not 100% certain!

The area known locally as Pennytown has now mostly been swallowed up by the Derbyshire village of Somercotes and surrounding industrial estates but the ponds remain as a Local Nature Reserve.

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Three years ago it was North Lane near Belper in Derbyshire, part of an ancient route known as ‘The Portway’ that was used by the Romans to transport lead from mines in north Derbyshire to the fort at Derventio Coritanorum (now the Little Chester area of Derby).

I’m digitising some of my older negatives as they crop up during my current bout of sorting and filing…

This image is from a trip to the Lake District National Park my wife and I took at Easter 1998. If memory serves, the day before this (when I was wandering around in shorts and a t-shirt) we’d been treated to biting winds and snow flurries!

The Contax G1 is one of the few cameras I truly regret parting with…

Another image of Belper East Mill, this time with ‘The Triangle’ in the foreground.

‘The Triangle’ was created c.1900 when a number of houses were demolished to improve the road juction here. It was used as the turning circle for the Derby-Belper bus from the end of the First World War until the 1970s.

Today is Worldwide Pinhole Photography Day and all being well I’ll be out and about somewhere with my ONDU 6×6 Pocket pinhole camera.

This image was captured yesterday, using a thingyfy Pinhole Pro S ‘lens’ mounted on my Fujifilm X-T1 via a Fujifilm MCEX-16 extension tube giving (if my calculations are correct) a 27mm focal length with an aperture of f193.

It was also the first time I’ve used a Wimberley Plamp, a very useful bit of kit…

Another image from my recent visit to Middleton Top on the High Peak Trail in Derbyshire.

I’m not completely certain but I think this track was at one time a railway line linking quarries at Middleton village to the Cromford and High Peak Railway.
