What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Five years ago it was the commune of Donzy in the Nièvre department in central France… well, mostly the doorways of Donzy! 😁

Yes, it does say ‘Support Your Local Hells Angels’ on the second door…

Here’s hoping that 2021 is kinder to us all than 2020 has been…

A pic from the digital archives today, shot on New Years’s Day 2017 in the Nièvre in central France.

I really must learn to identify trees, I know a silver birch when I see one but that’s about it!

In this year of scaled down festive celebrations I thought it appropriate to wish you all a Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or Cool Yule with, not three kings from the east, but one king from the west! 😁

In this case it’s Great Western Railway (GWR) 6000 class 4-6-0 6023 KING EDWARD II during its visit to the Great Central Railway‘s winter steam gala in January 2013.

* ‘and to all, a good night…’

Throwback Thursday… Sky Mirror, December 2013

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Seven years ago it was the Nottingham Sky Mirror.

Designed by artist Anish Kapoor the 20ft wide stainless steel dish was commissioned by the Nottingham Playhouse and unveiled in April 2007.

The striking structure is a bit hidden away on the edge of Wellington Circus but is well worth visiting, especially when the Playhouse Bar & Kitchen is open!

(One thing this image reminded me of was just how filthy the sensor in the Nikon D600 always seemed to be! I’ve had to clone out a dozen or so ‘blobs’ from the sky…

Single frame… Literally!

Pentax MZ-M, Pentax-A 50mm f/2 – 1/125s, f8, – Ilford XP2 Super rated at ISO 320

This roll of Ilford XP2 Super has been knocking around in my desk drawer for quite some time… I knew it was partially exposed but couldn’t remember how many shots I’d taken on it.

One!

Taken during a ‘Photography Friday’ outing with Rachel in January 2018! Film loaded, first shot taken, camera died! (a different Pentax MZ-M from the one I’ve posted pics from recently).

Nikon COOLSCAN IV ED scan with minimal cropping and tweaking in Lightroom Classic CC.

Monochrome Monday… Mercia Marina on Kentmere Pan 400

From Friday’s film disappointment (Foma Retropan 320) to a film I’m really beginning to love… Kentmere Pan 400.

Mercia Marina (off the Trent & Mersey Canal in South Derbyshire) is an odd mix of old boats and new buildings and it made for an interesting ‘Photography Friday’ outing back in January.

I was testing a (new to me) Nikon FE and shooting an inexpensive black & white film made sense as I’d just started home developing again.

Kentmere Pan 400 is certainly more contrasty than the Retropan and whilst still grainy, it’s a more ‘crisp’ grain that I rather like.

I’ve just bought some Kentmere Pan 100… let’s see what that’s like?

Single frame… Carr Wood (yet again!)

Posting this for a pal in Southern California today…
