Monochrome Monday… Signal post, High Peak Junction

Yet another image from the recently developed roll of Kosmo Foto Mono that had been lurking in a Pentax MZ-M since 2018.

I must photograph this railway signal post every single time I visit High Peak Junction, where the Cromford & High Peak Railway (C&HPR) met the Cromford Canal until the latter was abandoned in 1944.

Single frame… Literally!

Pentax MZ-M, Pentax-A 50mm f/2 – 1/125s, f8, – Ilford XP2 Super rated at ISO 320

This roll of Ilford XP2 Super has been knocking around in my desk drawer for quite some time… I knew it was partially exposed but couldn’t remember how many shots I’d taken on it.

One!

Taken during a ‘Photography Friday’ outing with Rachel in January 2018! Film loaded, first shot taken, camera died! (a different Pentax MZ-M from the one I’ve posted pics from recently).

The Midland Railway (MR) footbridge at Whatstandwell station is still used daily and was constructed by Andrew Handyside & Co. Ltd. of Derby as long ago as 1894!

Throwback Thursday… St Monans Kirk, October 2018

Fujifilm X-T1, Fujinon XF 18-135mm f3.5~5.6 R LM OIS WR at 26mm – 45 seconds, f/11 ISO 200

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Two years ago it was the picturesque Fife village of St Monans. Yes, I did photograph the ‘zig-zag pier’ but I also photographed the Kirk (Church) which dates from 1369 and is widely regarded to be the closest to the sea in the whole of Scotland!

If memory serves a Formatt-Hitech Firecrest 10-stop neutral density (ND) filter was used to give the 45 second exposure time and a 2-stop hard edge ND graduated filter was also used to reduce the brightness of the sky.

An image from this day last year, a day spent (as was the whole week) on the beautiful Isle of Whithorn in Dumfries & Galloway.

This pic was submitted to, and published in, The Scotsman that very week (although the subtle colours got a bit lost on newsprint!)

Monochrome Monday… Railway Viaduct, Mansfield

Konica Big Mini – Ilford HP5+

A pic from the archives today… This railway viaduct spans the Nottinghamshire town of Mansfield and has featured here before.

I love the sense of scale provided by the gent sitting on the bench in the sunshine.

The Konica Big Mini is one of my all-time favourite compact cameras, it’s currently loaded with JCH Street Pan 400 film and is often in my pocket…
