Monochrome Monday… Carr Wood on the YashicaMat 124G

YashicaMat 124G, Yashinon 80mm f/3.5 – 1/60s, f11, – Kodak T-Max 400
Developed in Ilford Ilfotec DD-X at 1:4, 8 mins at 20°c.

Another image from a twin-lens reflex (TLR) camera, but this time it’s a YashicaMat 124G.

It’s a camera I’ve never had much success with in the past… The taking lens has a little fungus inside and I’ve always found it difficult to focus. That said, previous attempts at using it were hand-held and lately I’ve been using a tripod more and more which (for me at least) makes focusing easier.

Square Saturday… Crocuses, Derby Arboretum

Mamiya C330, Mamiya-Sekor 80mm f/2.8 – 1/500s, f4, – Lomography CN 400 rated at ISO 200

An image from a recent ‘Photography Friday’ jaunt with my regular partner-in-crime, Rachel to Derby Arboretum, Britain’s first public park.

Joseph Strutt commissioned and donated the park for the benefit of citizens of Derby in 1840. The intention was a botanical tree garden for instruction as well as leisure. Sadly it was neglected for many years and even now is a little known and somewhat unappreciated spot in the city…

Throwback Thursday… Ecclesbourne Valley Railway

Panasonic Lumix GF-1, Lumix G Vario 45-200mm f/4~5.6 at 200mm, 1/1000s, f8, ISO 320

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Ten years ago it was the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Derbyshire.

The 1 in 27 Ravenstor Incline heads north out of Wirksworth station and didn’t originally carry passengers (leading as it did, to Middlepeak Quarry) but on special event days the line is in operation and is well worth a visit.

Another image from a recent wander around Derby… I don’t know how long it is since W.E. Savage & Son ceased trading but the shop has been empty for at least 12 years!

And yet another image from the Mamiya C330 twin-lens reflex (TLR) camera I’m currently trying out…

I actually managed a roll of colour film in this camera yesterday and I can’t wait to see the results!
