I was going to write that in this day and age of tanning salons and nail bars it’s quite refreshing to see a good, old-fashioned ‘Electro Platers to all Trades’ but it would appear that ‘Biggins Bros Ltd’ ceased trading in the year 2000!

The Biggins’ family are still active in Sheffield though, with Silversmith James Biggins producing a range of exquisite silver sculptures, mainly hunting and shooting themed pieces.

Monochrome Monday… Vintage section

Fujica GW690 – 1/60s, f8, – JCH Street Pan rated at ISO 800

My first roll of JCH Street Pan film in 120 format. I’m not sure what went wrong but the negatives are very thin indeed… Did I forget to mark the roll for push-processing when I sent it to the lab?

This is part of the vintage section in the Sue Ryder charity shop on Goodramgate in York. They had an assortment of photographic bits and bobs when I called in before Christmas but the only thing I bought was a Sporran!

Fujica GW690 – 1/30s, f4, – Ilford Delta 400 Professional rated at ISO 3200

I received five rolls of film back from the lab yesterday, all shot with the gorgeous Fujica GW690 that I’ve got on loan…

I’ve never pushed Ilford Delta 400 before and only did so here to try and bag a few shots of York after dark while wobbling my way from ‘The Last Drop’ to the railway station.

I’m absolutely loving the results from this camera… I’m quite taken with the pushed Delta 400 too!

Yet another shot from my first roll of Rollei RPX 100 film.

‘Women of Steel’ is a bronze sculpture that commemorates the women of Sheffield who worked in the city’s steel industry during World War I and World War II. Sculpted by Martin Jennings, it was unveiled at Barker’s Pool in June 2016.

The striking looking building in the centre of this image is Sheffield’s Charles Street Car Park, more commonly known as the ‘Cheese Grater’.

Designed by architects Allies and Morrison and opened in 2008, the ten storey structure contains 520 parking spaces and was voted ‘third coolest car park in the world’ in a 2013 competition.

Monochrome Monday… Assorted junk

A shot from my first roll of Rollei RPX 100, the second roll of film through a charity shop find Olympus OM20 (thanks Rachel!)

A couple of weeks back a visit was paid to the holt in Sheffield to view the winning entries of this year’s Photo Marathon and this was tucked away in a dark corner of the creative space there…

I’m rather taken with this film, it seems very forgiving, with a wide exposure latitude… I really must try the ISO 400 version.
