An image from a recent(ish) trip to Sheffield… I love the tiled ‘Gilmour’s Windsor Ales’ sign, one of a few still to be found in the area (Gilmour’s was a Sheffield brewery acquired by Joshua Tetley & Son Ltd in 1954).

From the sublime (the Fujica GW 690 Professional) to the ridiculous for this week’s ‘Fujica Friday’ post… the 110 Fujica Pocket 350 Zoom (a camera I still need to write a post about!)

Seagull WWSC-10, Haiou 75mm f/3.5 – 1/60s, f11, – Fuji Velvia RVP 50 (expired August 1997)

An image from Expired Film Day 2023.

A couple of years ago a pal (Hi Simon!) gave me a quantity of Fuji Provia RDP II 100 and Velvia RVP 50 slide film that had all expired in 1997 or 1998. A bit of research suggested exposing it at box speed and cross my fingers for reasonable results.

Even though I bracketed my exposures this year, every frame of this roll is terribly underexposed… atmospheric though!

Throwback Thursday… Steam at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway

British Railways class 4MT 2-6-4T 80002
Nikon D600, Nikkor AF-S 24-120mm f/3.5-5.6G at 120mm, 1/200s, f7.1, ISO 640

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Ten years ago it was this British Railways standard class 4MT 2-6-4T steam locomotive at Keighley station on the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway.

The tight curve and steep gradient out of Keighley station always makes locomotives work hard and there are a number of spots from which interesting and dramatic images can be captured.

Developed in Ilford DDX at 1:4, 10½ mins at 20°c.

An image from last January, shoppers cast shadows along Fargate in Sheffield…

Even with the 105mm’s built-in lens hood there’s still a reduction in contrast and a little flare but I quite like it.

An image from the archives today (but only recently digitised).

I’m reasonably certain this was taken during an early morning walk from the village of Malham in the Yorkshire Dales to Janet’s Foss, I’m slightly less certain that it was taken on Wifey’s 40th birthday.

As is often the case I’ve no idea of camera, lens, exposure, development…
