What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Five years ago it was the New Bridge at Calver in Derbyshire.
Although called the ‘New Bridge’ it was actually built in 1781 to carry the new Sheffield-Calver turnpike road over the River Derwent. The building visible through the bridge is Shuttle House which once housed the sluice machinery to control the flow of water down the goit (water channel) to Calver Mill.
I remember having a splendid Croque Madame for lunch at The Bridge Inn in Calver that day too!
I’ve photographed both bridge and house on a number of occasions. It’s a great location.
