What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Three years ago it was multi-period all-round entertainer Colin Bourdiec at the Bridge Inn in Cotmanhay, Derbyshire.

It was an incredibly entertaining evening with the highlights being Colin’s English/German version of “The Lambeth Walk” and the impromptu audience participation on “Run Rabbit Run” (something Rachel and I still wonder about… don’t ask!)

‘The Trade Federation arrive at Roker’ is a slightly obscure Star Wars reference but it was the first thing I thought when this scene presented itself…

An image from a stroll along the Trent & Mersey Canal with my partner in (photographic) crime Rachel back in August.

I liked the contrast between the harsh lines of the electricity pylons and the softer lines of the reeds and their reflection…

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Ten years ago it was legendary performance poet John Cooper Clarke doing his stuff at The Flowerpot in Derby.

It was an absolutely fantastic evening of poetry, humour and anecdotes with the highlight for me being the poem (and preamble to) “Bongo’s Trousers”, the opening line of which forms the title of this post.

Matlock isn’t the worst railway station I’ve waited for the last train at, not by a long shot (I think that ‘honour’ falls to another Derbyshire station though… Langley Mill!)

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Nine years ago it was more steam trains! This time at the Midland Railway-Butterley in Derbyshire.

London Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) Princess Coronation class 4-6-2 locomotive 46233 DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND was in operation and looked fantastic in the autumn sunshine.

I also paid a visit to the line’s demonstration signal box, a Midland Railway (MR) structure dating from 1895 that originally stood at Linby in Nottinghamshire.

A little detail from a recently spotted (and slightly oddly named) Ford Econoline 250 Chateau van. I can’t imagine any vehicle fitted with a 4.9L (302 cu in) V8 engine being in any way ‘Econo’.
