Throwback Thursday… Midland Railway-Butterley
DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND arrivng at Swanwick Junction
Panasonic Lumix GF-1, Lumix G Vario OIS 14-45 f/3.5~5.6 at 45mm, 1/320s, f7.1, ISO 200
What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Nine years ago it was more steam trains! This time at the Midland Railway-Butterley in Derbyshire.
London Midland & Scottish Railway (LMS) Princess Coronation class 4-6-2 locomotive 46233 DUCHESS OF SUTHERLAND was in operation and looked fantastic in the autumn sunshine.
I also paid a visit to the line’s demonstration signal box, a Midland Railway (MR) structure dating from 1895 that originally stood at Linby in Nottinghamshire.

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Five years ago it was the subway leading up into the Broadmarsh Shopping centre from the bus station in Nottingham… I remember thinking it had a Star Wars ‘trench run’ feel to it at the time…

Fujifilm X20, Fujinon Super EBC 7.1-28.4mm f2~2.8 at 11mm, 1/350s, f8, ISO 200
Another image from North Norfolk and given the unseasonably soggy May we’re having I thought I’d choose one captured during an unseasonably warm October!
The six-acre walled garden at Holkham Hall is an ongoing restoration project and a wonderful place to while away a slumberous afternoon.

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Two years ago it was this juxtaposition of signs that made me chuckle…
Even the longest established businesses need to relocate sometimes! 😁

Nikon F-301, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI-S, 1/250s, f4, Kodak T-Max P3200
This is one of four shots taken during a short walk through Derby to The Brunswick Inn in January…
The centre-weighted metering of the Nikon F-301 made a surprisingly good job of this scene, when the dark nights roll around again I’ll have another go at shots like this…

Nikon FE2, Nikkor 24mm f2.8 AI-S – 1/60s, f8, – Ilford Delta 400 Professional rated at ISO 800
I recently fitted new light seals to my Nikon FE2, this shot is from the roll of Ilford Delta 400 that I tested it with.
I don’t regularly visit the local park but this particular day was perfect for a picnic lunch (and photography) and Joy and I spent about an hour there before pottering off to the pub!
The new light seals came from Nik & Trick Photo Services in Folkestone and I can’t recommend them highly enough! They supply three sets to take care of any ‘mess ups’ during fitting but they really were a doddle to install! I’ll be ordering a set for my Olympus OM-1N next!

Fujica GW690 – 1/60s, f8, – JCH Street Pan rated at ISO 800
My first roll of JCH Street Pan film in 120 format. I’m not sure what went wrong but the negatives are very thin indeed… Did I forget to mark the roll for push-processing when I sent it to the lab?
This is part of the vintage section in the Sue Ryder charity shop on Goodramgate in York. They had an assortment of photographic bits and bobs when I called in before Christmas but the only thing I bought was a Sporran!
