From the (digital) archive… Partial Lunar Eclipse, New Year’s Eve 2009

For the last post of 2021 I’ve raided my (digital) archive for one of the few pics I’ve ever taken on New Year’s Eve… in this case 12 years ago.

A partial lunar eclipse was certainly of more interest to me than the usual NYE shenanigans that were on offer in 2009! 😁

Anyway… here’s wishing you all a happy and healthy 2022.

Single frame… Moon

Fujifilm X-T2, Centon 500mm f/8 Mirror Lens, 1/500s, f8, ISO 1600

I spent a fun hour last night photographing the moon (and giving a phone tutorial to Rachel on the same thing…)

I’d found a cheap 500mm mirror lens in the cupboard and with the aid of a T2 mount and a Nikon-Fuji adapter managed to mount it on my X-T2 giving me the equivalent of a 750mm lens.

This lens seems to be able to focus beyond infinity though and I had trouble getting a correctly focussed image… this one is the best out of the 59 shots I took!

Throwback Thursday… Cley Windmill, March 2015

Fujifilm X-E1, Fujinon XF 18-55mm f2.8~4 R LM OIS at 33mm, 1/25s, f3.6, ISO 3200

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Four years ago it was the windmill at Cley next the Sea in Norfolk.

The light was fading rapidly and unfortunately my tripod was packed underneath everything else in the boot of the car so I had to rely on the 18-55’s Optical Image Stabilizer (OIS) and a high ISO to get any image at all…
