“No more work to-night. Christmas Eve.” (Mr Fezziwig)

Or… “The lamplighters are at work. It’s Christmas Eve for certain.” (Mr Fozziwig 😁)

A couple of images from what used to be an annual trip to Castleton in the Peak District for an evening of traditional carols on the last Sunday before Christmas.

On St Andrew’s Day… The Kelpies, November 2018

Wishing my friends and readers north of the border a safe and happy St Andrew’s Day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 I’ll be having a wee dram on your behalf tonight…

Love them or loathe them, the The Kelpies (designed by sculptor Andy Scott) have quickly become Scottish icons since their opening to the public in April 2014.

Throwback Thursday… H.O. Bowley Ltd, Hosiery & fabrics

Fujifilm X-T10, Fujinon XF 35mm f2 R WR, 1/40s, f2, ISO 1600

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Five years ago it was the business premises of H.O. Bowley Ltd, Hosiery & fabrics in Loughborough during a stroll to the (sadly now closed) Tap & Mallet pub on Nottingham Road.

I really should do more of this kind of photography… even if wandering the streets at night can get you a reputation! 😁

Throwback Thursday… York Minster, illuminated by Patrice Warrener

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Sixteen years ago it was York Minster, bathed in light by the French artist Patrice Warrener.

Two projectors were used to illuminate the west front of the Minster, creating a design called the ‘Heart of Yorkshire’, part of a project to ‘breathe new life into the city centre in ways that are both sympathetic to our treasured heritage and reflective of leading-edge contemporary art’ (according to a member of the City of York Council at the time).

An image from a roll of film that’s been lurking in a camera for almost a year…

Matlock isn’t the worst railway station I’ve waited for the last train at, not by a long shot (I think that ‘honour’ falls to another Derbyshire station though… Langley Mill!)

Digitised using Nikon D5500 & AF-S Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8 and Nikon ES-2 Film Digitising Adapter with minimal cropping and tweaking in Lightroom Classic CC.

Single frame… Moon

Fujifilm X-T2, Centon 500mm f/8 Mirror Lens, 1/500s, f8, ISO 1600

I spent a fun hour last night photographing the moon (and giving a phone tutorial to Rachel on the same thing…)

I’d found a cheap 500mm mirror lens in the cupboard and with the aid of a T2 mount and a Nikon-Fuji adapter managed to mount it on my X-T2 giving me the equivalent of a 750mm lens.

This lens seems to be able to focus beyond infinity though and I had trouble getting a correctly focussed image… this one is the best out of the 59 shots I took!

Throwback Thursday… Light Night in Nottingham

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Five years ago it was ‘Light Night‘ in Nottingham, a ‘night of eclectic and electric light installations’ that kicked off (for me at least) with a few pints in the Pitcher and Piano (where the ‘Hanging Helmet’ caught my eye).
