I love finding these old, faded road signs… This one in Arundel, West Sussex is screwed to the castle wall and still (vaguely) points the way to the car park.

I don’t know how old this sign is but it predates the current style of signage on British roads which came into use in the mid 1960s following a review by the Worboys Committee.

Another wonderful old business premises in central France, photographed between beer breaks at pavement cafés during a wander around Cosne-sur-Loire in August last year. This ‘Locksmith Security’ specialist had long since moved on…

I really could spend hours just wandering around and photographing things like this.

The centre-weighted metering of the Nikon F-301 made a surprisingly good job of this scene, when the dark nights roll around again I’ll have another go at shots like this…

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Nine years ago it was this Running in board at Swanwick Junction station at Midland Railway-Butterley (MR-B).

Running in boards tended to be positioned at the end of station platforms and were designed to allow passengers to determine their location as a train entered the station, possibly while still moving at speed!

This example is/was a modern construct as Swanwick Junction station didn’t exist until the heritage line arrived there… I say is/was because the last couple of times I’ve visited there’s been no trace of this particular board.

One of the films that came back from the lab on Saturday was a roll of JCH Street Pan 400 that had been lurking in my Nikon FA since August last year!

Tideswell in the Derbyshire Dales (known locally as ‘Tidza’) is a beautiful village, the centrepiece of which is the Church of St John the Baptist, known as the ‘Cathedral of the Peak’.

The dull weather during my visit didn’t do the sights any favours but Bellamy Hunt’s JCH Street Pan 400 film has still delivered some nice, contrasty images…
