Throwback Thursday… Radio Times ‘ghost’ sign

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Four years ago it was this ‘ghost’ sign in Derby. I have a fondness for old painted, carved or tiled signs advertising long defunct businesses and I photograph them whenever possible.

This one has obviously been repainted at some point as two sets of ‘Radio Times’ lettering are clearly visible…

A road trip through the French countryside is a fantastic way of finding interesting things to photograph… this closed up café was in the sleepy commune of Jars in the Cher department.

Monochrome Monday… Biggins Bros Ltd

I was going to write that in this day and age of tanning salons and nail bars it’s quite refreshing to see a good, old-fashioned ‘Electro Platers to all Trades’ but it would appear that ‘Biggins Bros Ltd’ ceased trading in the year 2000!

The Biggins’ family are still active in Sheffield though, with Silversmith James Biggins producing a range of exquisite silver sculptures, mainly hunting and shooting themed pieces.

I do love a bit of ‘wriggly tin’ especially when it sports peeling paint and patches of rust… As far as I can tell ‘John Toulson Transport’ hasn’t occupied this building since 2008 and the Teesdale weather hasn’t been kind to it since then.

Off to see the Godsons today… a couple of months ago we all wandered around Brighton together and the only camera I carried with me was the tiny Olympus XA that was kindly gifted to me in the first Emulsive ‘Secret Santa’.

Today’s camera of choice is the equally tiny half-frame Olympus Pen EE-2.
