What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Twelve years ago it was Stephenson’s Rocket! (albeit the replica built by Locomotion Enterprises (1975) Ltd in 1979).

This replica of the famous 1829 original was in action at the National Railway Museum at York, running up and down the Warehouse Line with a replica Liverpool and Manchester Railway 2nd class coach (built in 1930) and I managed a ride in the latter…

The 1979 built replica is currently on display at Locomotion in Shildon but the 1829 original is currently on display at the NRM (along with another, part-sectioned replica, dating from 1935).

Five years ago it was the seaside town of Bridlington in Yorkshire.

It’s a town I never get bored with visiting and I’m hoping to visit again in June for Race the Waves ’22

Ten years ago it was the Ecclesbourne Valley Railway in Derbyshire.

The 1 in 27 Ravenstor Incline heads north out of Wirksworth station and didn’t originally carry passengers (leading as it did, to Middlepeak Quarry) but on special event days the line is in operation and is well worth a visit.

What was I photographing on this day in previous years?

Seven years ago it was Peak Rail in Derbyshire.

LORD PHIL (built by the Hunslet Engine Co Ltd for the War Department in 1943) was in charge of passenger services and had no problems handling a five coach train.

This Midland Railway wagon was looking every bit its almost hundred years age though… ‘For Internal Use Only’ refers to a vehicle not allowed out onto the main line but still used in an industrial location.
