West Pier, Brighton, December 2018
Fujica GW690 – 1/125s, f16, – Rollei RPX 400 rated at ISO 800
I’ve taken a few photos of Brighton’s West Pier over the years but this is one of my favourites, taken while beachcombing with the younger of my two Godsons…

Café, Avenue Edgard Hubert.jpg
Nikon FE2, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI-S – 1/125s, f8, – Kodak ColorPlus 200 rated at ISO 100
A road trip through the French countryside is a fantastic way of finding interesting things to photograph… this closed up café was in the sleepy commune of Jars in the Cher department.

Ford Thames 300E van
Fujifilm X-E1, Fujinon XF 18-55mm f2.8~4 R LM OIS at 52mm, 1/80s, f8, ISO 400
What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Four years ago it was this sorry specimen… A Ford Thames 300E van seemingly abandoned in a field.
The Ford Thames 300E was derived from the Anglia/Prefect 100E saloon car and shared its 1172cc side valve engine. Almost 197,000 were produced between July 1954 and April 1961, its replacement, the Thames 307E (based on the Anglia 105E saloon) was introduced in the following June.
Winding Drum, Magpie Mine
Fujifilm X-T1, Fujinon XF 18-135mm f3.5~5.6 R LM OIS WR at 28mm, 1/60s, f8, ISO 1000
Biggins Bros Ltd, Sheffield
Olympus OM20, Zuiko Auto-S 50mm f/1.8 – 1/60s, f8, – Rollei RPX 100
I was going to write that in this day and age of tanning salons and nail bars it’s quite refreshing to see a good, old-fashioned ‘Electro Platers to all Trades’ but it would appear that ‘Biggins Bros Ltd’ ceased trading in the year 2000!
The Biggins’ family are still active in Sheffield though, with Silversmith James Biggins producing a range of exquisite silver sculptures, mainly hunting and shooting themed pieces.

Narrow boats, Langley Mill, February 2019
Nikon D5500, AF-S Nikkor 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 G II at 24mm, 1/125s, f8, ISO 320
Reflection, Lower Largo, October 2018
Nikon F3HP, Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI-S – 1/250s, f11, – Agfa APX 400 rated at ISO 320
I can’t wait to get back to the coast… any bit of coast will do but my favourite is that around Fife in Scotland. A stroll on the beach at Lower Largo followed by a pie and a pint in the Railway Inn would hit the spot today.
