Monochrome Monday… Silver Birch and Mother Cap

Developed in Ilford DDX at 1:4, 10 mins at 20°c.

A (just) pre-lockdown image and another from my recently returned Olympus OM-1N but this time using a lens that rarely sees any action, the Zuiko Auto-T 135mm f/3.5.

Silver Birch trees (Betula pendula) are common on the ‘Edges’ in the Peak District but I can never resist photographing them…

The ‘Mother Cap’ stone sits high above the abandoned gritstone quarries on Millstone Edge and is very popular with climbers.

An image from the first roll of film through my Olympus OM-1N since it’s return from PPP Repairs and one of the first to use the Zuiko 50mm f/3.5 Macro lens that was a 50th birthday present from my wife (thank you Joy!)

The 50mm Macro has very quickly become the ‘standard’ lens on my OM cameras, it’s wonderfully compact and lightweight, not to mention fantastically sharp!

Square Saturday… ‘Tin Tabernacle’

Yashica Mat 124G – 1/250s, f8 – Ilford FP4 Plus rated at ISO 100

Another image from a test roll of Ilford FP4 Plus put through a Yashica Mat 124G that I had repaired last year.

This ‘tin tabernacle’ is located at Swanwick Junction at the Midland Railway-Butterley and is officially known as ‘St. Saviours Church’ and is available for wedding blessings (although not the actual marriage ceremony for legal reasons), funerals and memorial services.

It originally stood at Westhouses near Alfreton and was built in 1898 with support from the Midland Railway (MR).

Another 20-year old image, taken on a borrowed Fuji GSW 690 III…

The Midland Railway-Butterley has featured on this blog many times before, whether the trains are running or not, there’s always something interesting to photograph.

Hopefully by now the boiler has been reunited with the rest of the locomotive!

Yashica Mat 124G – 1/125s, f11 – Ilford FP4 Plus rated at ISO 100

Another shot from my first roll of film through the Yashica Mat 124G that I had repaired by Miles Whitehead of MW Camera Repairs last year.

These two Motor Rail diesel locomotives at the Midland Railway-Butterley have definitely seen better days since finishing work at ICI’s Smalldale Quarry in the Peak District.

This is from a test roll of Ilford FP4 Plus shot in a recently repaired Yashica Mat 124G. The scans seem a bit ‘flat’ but I’ve not yet looked at the negatives as they’re still in the post.

It’s a beautiful camera and thanks to Miles Whitehead of MW Camera Repairs I can start using it again!
