Last Friday I had a gentle stroll around Chester Green in Derby and crossed the River Derwent on this bridge.
Known as ‘Handyside Bridge’ it originally carried the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Extension of the Great Northern Railway and was built in 1878 by local engineers Andrew Handyside and Company.
The riveted wrought iron structure saw its last train in May 1968 (when the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Extension closed) and was converted to a footbridge in 1976.
Digitised using Nikon D5600 & AF-S Micro-NIKKOR 40mm f/2.8 and Nikon ES-2 Film Digitising Adapter with minimal cropping and tweaking in Lightroom Classic CC.
