The Grade II* listed St Mary’s Bridge in Derby has featured here before… and given my fondness for a pint (or two) at the Furnace Inn just a few yards away, it will no doubt do so again!

I’ve mentioned before the complete disarray a lot of my negatives are in and this image is a prime example!

A sheet of negatives turned up yesterday (whilst I was looking for something else) and after much head-scratching I worked out that this pic was of The Church of St Mary and All Saints in Fotheringhay, Northamptonshire and was taken in August… 1998!

I did eventually track down a working Nikon F-601 (after the last one I bought expired after less than one roll…) and this image is from the first film put through it.

This Nissen hut (or at the least the remains of it) stands beside the the High Peak Trail near Cromford in Derbyshire… A lovely place to have a wander with a camera (or two).

Another image from my recent stroll around Chester Green in Derby.

It took me a moment or two to work out why this simple view of a city street appealed to me quite so much… No cars!

Last Friday I had a gentle stroll around Chester Green in Derby and crossed the River Derwent on this bridge.

Known as ‘Handyside Bridge’ it originally carried the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Extension of the Great Northern Railway and was built in 1878 by local engineers Andrew Handyside and Company.

The riveted wrought iron structure saw its last train in May 1968 (when the Derbyshire and Staffordshire Extension closed) and was converted to a footbridge in 1976.

This hook is one of a number of features retained by a local building that used to be a pub called ‘The Generous Briton’. I’m assuming it was used to lower barrels into the cellar.

The pub closed years ago but the building also has (a very faded) sign and a skittle alley in the yard…
