Another pic from my recent holiday to Scotland… A view of ‘The Isle’ (as it’s known locally) on the Dumfries & Galloway coast.
The walled area on the left, jutting out into the harbour is called the Captain’s Garden, now with several houses on it, but originally a garden associated with the nearby castle. The black squares painted on the wall aren’t (as I originally thought) some kind of navigation markings but are in fact, simulated man o’ war gun ports!

Nikon D100, Nikkor 24-85mm f/2.8-4 AF-D, 1/250s, f8, ISO 200
What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Fifteen years ago it was the landscapes of the Yorkshire Dales…
For a number of years we rented a cottage in the beautiful market town of Leyburn for a week in November… relaxation, long walks and lots of local beer tended to be the order of the day, with a little photography thrown in.
Pen Hill is roughly five miles south west of Leyburn and at 1,814ft high it is a prominent landmark in the area.

Throwback Thursday… By the banks of the Loire…
Le Marinier Tirant sa Barque
Fujifilm X-T10, Fujinon XF 18-55mm f2.8~4 R LM OIS at 18mm, 1/60s, f10, ISO 1250
What was I photographing on this day in previous years?
Four years ago it was this fantastic sculpture on the bank of the Loire River at Cosne-Cours-sur-Loire in central France.
Entitled ‘Le Marinier Tirant sa Barque’ (The Bargee Pulling his Boat) the sculpture was created by Jean-Jacques Bourgeois based on an idea by Marcel Van Nieuwenberg.
The bridge in the background crosses both the Loire and the border between the Nièvre and Cher départements.

OK, a few words today… ‘Ey up mi duck’ is a friendly greeting often used in Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, also the title of an excellent book about the dialect of the East Midlands by Richard Scollins and John Titford.

Nikon D300, AF-S DX NIKKOR 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6G ED VR at 45mm, 1/400s, f6.3, ISO 500
Today’s ‘Photography Friday’ involves a trip to the autumn steam gala at the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire.
The above image was captured at the same event seven years ago and shows Southern Railway ‘Schools’ class 4-4-0 locomotive No.925 ‘CHELTENHAM’ at Loughborough Central station, preparing to couple on to its first train of the day…
Coincidentally a classmate of ‘CHELTENHAM’ should be running today… No.926 ‘REPTON’ is visiting from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and I’m looking forward to having a ride behind it.
