Heritage railways are full of interesting items to photograph: the trains themselves, the architecture, the people (staff and visitors alike) and the myriad small details that make up a scene of days gone by…

This bicycle was sitting under the platform canopy at Sheringham station on the North Norfolk Railway during my visit there a few weeks ago and I couldn’t resist a snap whilst waiting for my train.

A couple of boats at Dobson’s Boatyard on the Trent & Mersey Canal at Shardlow… Taken during a recent ‘Photography Friday’ jaunt and the first outing for a charity shop find Tamron Adaptall-2 35-70mm f/3.5 lens… a bargain at a fiver!

Rosie and Daniel’s wedding must have been the first that I’ve attended in 20 years where I wasn’t actually expected to take photos… needless to say, I still packed a camera though.

I couldn’t resist trying some of the recently reintroduced Kodak T-Max P3200 black & white film and the above shot is one of the first I took. I’m reasonably happy with the results (even if I didn’t quite nail the focus), the grain isn’t too obtrusive and I think there’s just the right amount of contrast.

I’ve a couple more rolls in stock… what to shoot with them?

Following Kodak’s announcement yesterday that the much-missed black & white film T-Max P3200 is to make a return I thought I’d post another pic shot on that film… (for others see here and here).

This is what I mainly used it for, concert photography… In this case Eddy Morton performing with The Bushburys at The Fishpond in Matlock Bath back in 1999.

I’ve got no notes regarding development but do know that the film was rated at box speed and remember the negatives being surprisingly easy to print.

I’ll definitely be ordering a few rolls…

An image from my second roll of Japan Camera Hunter Street Pan film (the first was shot in what turned out to be a faulty Olympus μ[mju:] II Zoom 80).

So far I definitely prefer this film to the Fuji Neopan 400CN that I have been using recently. The grain isn’t obtrusive and the images are nice and ‘contrasty’ which surprises me given the very flat light the afternoon I wandered around Alligny-Cosne, snapping away while waiting for the boulangerie to open at 4pm…

I’ve got one more roll in stock, I think I’ll shoot it this weekend.

I’m not over keen on Fuji’s C41 process black & white film… I can’t quite put my finger on why though, other than it seems very ‘grainy’ for an ISO 400 film. Once my existing stock is used up I’m going to try shooting some Ilford Delta 400 and Kodak T-MAX 400 and see how I get on with those…
