Slide Film Sunday… The Upper Room by Colin Wilbourn

A couple of weeks ago I posted an image of Colin Wilbourn’s Stone Stair Carpet here and when browsing the artist’s website I discovered I’d photographed another of his creations in Durham back in February 2000.

The Upper Room was created from 13 elm trunks, arranged on the bank of the River Wear where they had grown. From most viewpoints they made little sense but at one end of the ‘grove’ there was a seat in a hollowed out trunk and from this seat the image of the empty room, complete with the remains of the meal that had taken place there became visible.

Eventually the wood deteriorated and the sculpture was dismantled…

I’m currently trying out a Mamiya C330 twin-lens reflex (TLR) camera and this image is from the second roll of film I’ve put through it.

It’s a heavy beast but incredibly nice to use, and (as I’m sure I’ve mentioned before) I love the square format!

This is milepost 22 on what was the Cromford & High Peak Railway (C&HPR) in Derbyshire, now the High Peak Trail.
